Fatwood, also known as “fire stater,” or “lighters” is derived from the heartwood of pine trees. Fatwood is an all-natural product that is used as a fire starter. It is safe to use it in indoor fireplaces and wood-burning stoves.
High in natural pine resins, it is easy to light with a single match. It ignites instantly, quick and easy, no more newspapers or any chemicals to start your fire. As the resins catch fire, the flames spread quickly.
Fatwood is the heart of the pine tree. It is harvested from the center of the stump. As the tree matures, this natural resin moves downward collecting in the base of the tree. After the logging is completed, the stumps left in the ground accumulate a great amount of resins that become what is called “Fatwood.”
